I love Middle Eastern cuisine for It’s wonderful spices and bold flavours.
It’s all about sharing and koftas are no different. Traditionally cooked on a grill over charcoal and then placed in the middle of the table with lots of different sides and everyone makes their own plates.
It’s not only a delicious, no fuss meal but It’s also a great conversation starter too. Perfect for when you are entertaining family and friends.
You can also make these a tad smaller and serve them as appetisers.
What are kofta kebabs
Kofta (or kefta) are a Middle Eastern dish made with minced lamb, spices and fresh herbs. Traditionally the kofta’s are shaped around a skewer and then placed on a hot grill.
When I am making these at home for the family I find without a skewer is easier and we cook them in a pan. They come out equally delicious but if It’s that smokey flavour your after then they come up great cooked on a webber
What your gonna need
- Lamb mince; if lamb is hard to find then you can use beef mince

Sauces for your koftas
Because sauce makes everything taste even better I love to serve my koftas with a garlic yoghurt sauce and I find tzatziki goes perfectly! You can grab the recipe right here.
Another perfect match is hummus, you can use store bought but once you have discovered how quick and easy it is to whip up a batch yourself you will be hooked, check out my hummus recipe here.
What to serve with lamb kofta
Lamb koftas are delicious served on their own even with a simple and fresh Greek salad. However to make a real hearty meal and an amazing DIY spread for your family or guests here is what I love to serve with my koftas:
- Warm homemade flat bread
- Tabouli salad
- Hummus
- Tzatzkik
- Rice or pilaf
How to make lamb kofta
Start by prepping all your ingredients; roughly chopping your pistachios and finely chopping your fresh herbs.
Place all the ingredients in a large bowl and using your hands give it a really good mix. Ensure you have seasoned generously with salt and pepper.
Using damp hands, divide your meat into small rounded logs. The mixture will make approx. 12 kofta’s.
Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook the koftas until golden.
Serve with flatbread, tabouli, hummus and tzatziki.
There you have my delicious lamb kofta kebabs. I really hope you enjoy these moorish koftas and taste for yourself how delicious every single bite is!
Enjoy
