I remember how excited I was about my wedding gift registry. The excitement soon turned to being overwhelmed when I discovered just how many “essential” kitchen tools were out there. Sometimes less is more or you can end up with 100 different tools and only use a few of them.
All of the tools I have recommended I use at home in my own kitchen.
Having the right tools for the job will not only make cooking a breeze but It’s going to get you excited about being in the kitchen.
LETS GO!
Kitchen Aid Mixer
I totally get it these are not cheap but they are an investment thats going to last a lifetime. I have had my Kitchen aid for over 10 years now and have never had any issues.
The three attachments come as standard; a wire whisk, which is great for whisking cream and making pavlova. The flat beater attachment makes baking a breeze and the dough hook is fantastic for making pizza and bread dough.
Once you have this basic set up, the Kitchen aid is also compatible with a range of attachments like meat grinders, juicers and pasta makers.
This is definitely an essential tool in my kitchen!
If nothing else these stunning mixers also make a fashionable statement to your kitchen bench.
Microplane Grater
Microplane graters are one of my favourite tools in the kitchen. My pick is the fine grater as it can double up as a zester too.
Until you have used one of these super fine graters you don’t know what your missing out on. A box grater is fine for your everyday grating of vegetables but when you don’t want those big chunks this is the tool you need.
I love how you can add restaurant quality finishing touches to your dishes with the microplane grater like superfine grated cheese over your pasta and delicate chocolate shavings on your desserts.
Garlic press
Whenever a recipe calls for crushed garlic like my creamy tzatziki or beef burgers you want finely minced garlic. No matter how finely you try and chop the garlic by hand you won’t get the same results.
This tool is not only great for crushing garlic quickly and effectively, the best part is you can say goodbye to smelly garlic hands. Simply place the whole garlic clove in the press and crush your garlic straight into your pan or bowl.
If your like me and you love adding garlic to everything then this is going to make your life so much easier.
Griddle pan
Every kitchen needs a good quality non-stick griddle pan. At home I use the Le Creuset cast iron griddle pan. Just like my kitchen aid, I’ve had it for over ten years now and it was such a good investment. It’s great for grilling steak, chicken and fish but I also use mine for grilling bread and veggies.
Check out my healthy grilled chicken burgers which I grill on my Le crest griddle pan.
I love the Le Creuset signature range of bright colours too as it makes a statement to your stovetop.
Digital scales
If you are still using old school manual scales or just winging measurements then you need to get yourself a digital kitchen scale.
Especially when it comes to baking, precise measurements are key. This stylish and easy to use digital scale allows you to effortlessly switch between different measurements in g, lb, oz, kg and ml.
Sleek in stainless steel it’s also very easy to clean. These scales also have anti fingerprint technology which means little hands can touch!
Multi Purpose Stainless Steel Scraper
My darling husband bought me one of these for Christmas a few years back and honestly I had no clue what this even was. Now I can’t live without it!
This tool is so versatile, it doubles up as a scraper and a cutter and so much more!
This tool comes out every time I make any type of dough; pizza, pasta even scones. Its perfect for cutting dough and then scraping all the stuck on bits of dough from the Bech straight into the bin.
You can even use it to cut up vegetables and it has an easy to clean stainless steel blade.
Kitchen Scissors
Who would have thought a simple pair of scissors would be such an amazing tool to have. Let me tell you why I love these!
They are razor sharp so perfect for cutting through meat or quartering a chicken. Even scraping off fish scales.
I use them to cut up my pizzas, pita bread, fresh herbs, even flower stems.
These scissors also have a nut and shell fish cracking feature as well as a bottle opener. How smart is that.
After all that hard work they can be thrown in the dishwasher!
Potato ricer
Raise your hand if you like lumpy mashed potatoes…I didn’t think so! This sleek potato ricer gives you smooth and creamy mashed potato every time. No elbow grease needed.
Great for making gnocchi and preparing baby food.
The potato ricer can also be used on any cooked root vegetable such as carrots, parsnips, sweet potato and beetroot.
Vegetable Spiralizer
Jump on the Zoodle train and get yourself a vegetable spiralizer. This inexpensive tool basically turns your veggies into noodles.
Spiralizers are so easy to use and so much fun! Create gorgeous spiralled veggies for salads and pasta sauces. Great for paleo and Keto cooking.
It can be used on zucchini, potatoes, beetroot, carrot, parsnip, apples and more.
Get the kids excited about eating their veggies!
I hope you enjoyed my guide of essential kitchen tools I believe every kitchen needs.
Happy Cooking
XX
We’ve recently gotten much more into cooking lately spending more time at home and are always looking for new tools which are useful! This is a great list!
Hmm good set of Knives, and my alligator (it’s a really cool mandolin) is what I would add to your list
I also cannot live without my knife block!!
I agree! I think these tools are wonderful to have in your kitchen, especially if you love to cook!
100% 🙂
Wow , love this definitely going to be adding some of these to Birthday wish list
This is a great list – my kitchenaide mixer is constantly in use in my kitchen, definitely worth the money. I haven’t had luck in the past finding a good grill pan and don’t have one currently, I will need to try out the one on your list. Thank you!
Hey Marie, your’re totally right! These kitchens tools could really give a big help to start cooking some great dish!
And it makes cooking a lot easier too 🙂
I’m about to move to a new apartment and I have nothing!!! Thank you for this list, so helpful!
Thanks Laia, glad I could help and good luck with the move!
Nice post! I have not tried a spiralizer yet but it looks like fun!
Thanks Melissa It really is 🙂
For me a garlic press is definitely up there for not living without!
I need to get my cooking skills together. Maybe this list will help thank u
No worries glad to help 🙂
Thank you for such a helpful post! My husband and I bought our first home and moving in next week. Very excited to start cooking more! 🙂
I agree with all these with one exception. I hated my garlic press. It was too fiddly and difficult to clean. I much prefer to use a knife. Squish the garlic with the side of the knife then chop. Easy. I don’t think I could live without my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer or my grater. And my kitchen scissors always seem to disappear into the kids crafting area… so I advise getting at least 2 of these. Great post!
Thanks Patricia 🙂
As a keto food/recipe creator I love this list! Of course I am also a kitchen gadget hoarder – I absolutely LOVE having all sorts of kitchen gadgets!
hahaha Love that!!!
This is a great article. I have most of the items listed. I don’t have a scale yet or a garlic press. My favorite kitchen tool is my mortar & pestle.
You need a garlic press in your life 🙂
Never heard about a steel scraper, I would be confused too to get it as a gift! Vegetable spiralizer is something I really need as I love pasta but don’t feel very well after it, would be nice to replace it with vegetable options!
Once you use it you will love it!!!
These are items I definitely need for my kitchen especially the garlic press
Tina, I am lost without my garlic press 🙂
